SUMMARY:Connect on the Quest: A Field Guide to Climate Anxiety - How to Keep Your Cool on a Warming Planet
DESCRIPTION:Connect on the Quest – for any climate action advocate – green school mentor – teacher – community member – all are welcome – Wednesday\, February 8\, 2023 @ 4:30 pm – 5:30 pm\, online. \nREGISTER \nThose inheriting our planet’s environmental problems expect to encounter challenges\, but they may not have the skills to grapple with the feelings of powerlessness and despair that may arise when they confront this seemingly intractable situation. \nDrawing on a decade of experience leading and teaching in college environmental studies programs\, Sarah Jaquette Ray has created an “existential tool kit” for youth who are reenergizing global environmental activism – the “climate generation.” Combining insights from psychology\, sociology\, social movements\, mindfulness\, and the environmental humanities\, Ray explains why and how we need to let go of eco-guilt\, resist burnout\, and cultivate resilience while advocating for climate justice. Her new book\, a Field Guide to Climate Anxiety\, is the essential guidebook for the climate generation—and perhaps the rest of us—as we confront the greatest environmental threat of our time. \nConnect on the Quest is a virtual gathering centered on providing Green Schools Quest participants with opportunities to connect with each other and learn together. It is also open to educators who are not yet participating\, but would like to learn about the subjects shared. This year’s Connect on the Quest series will focus on resources and education surrounding Climate Action. \nConnect on the Quest: A Field Guide to Climate Anxiety – How to Keep Your Cool on a Warming Planet \nPRESENTERS \nSarah Jaquette Ray\, Author of A Field Guide to Climate Anxiety; Chair and Professor of Environmental Studies at Cal Poly Humboldt. Ray researches and teaches on climate justice\, the environmental humanities\, and climate emotions. Her recent book\, A Field Guide to Climate Anxiety: How to Keep Your Cool on a Warming Planet\, explores the role of emotions in climate justice activism. Ray is co-editing an edited collection for educators called An Existential Toolkit for Climate Justice Educators\, and has developed a workshop to help educators bring the science of emotions into environmental education\, called the Climate Wisdom Lab. She speaks extensively on climate justice and emotions\, and has written for the LA Times\, The Scientific American\, The Cairo Review of Global Affairs\, Zocalo Public Square\, and other venues. \nSeveral GSQ Participants will share out updates on their projects! \nWHERE\nVirtual event via Zoom.\nRegistrants will receive login details prior to the event. \nADMISSION\nFREE.
