SUMMARY:Green Building Break - Leveraging Existing Buildings with the CARE Tool
DESCRIPTION:REGISTER NOW \n\nIt’s often said that the greenest building is the one that already exists\, yet until recently this idea lacked robust\, data-backed evidence. As a result\, the carbon benefits of reusing existing buildings are frequently overlooked in climate action strategies\, carbon accounting\, and design decision-making. This gap represents a major missed opportunity for professionals in preservation\, planning\, design\, and policy to better measure their potential impact and advocate more effectively for building reuse. The CARE (Carbon Avoided Retrofit Estimator) Tool addresses this challenge by enabling decision-makers to quantify the carbon benefits of renovating and upgrading existing buildings versus demolishing and constructing new ones. Join us for an introduction to the CARE Tool with architect James Roseberry of Trivers and learn how CARE can be used to estimate the carbon impact of your projects and compare the impact of different design decisions. \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n James Roseberry\, AIA\, CDT\, LEED AP BD+C\, Director of Sustainability\, Trivers Associates \nJames is the Director of Sustainability and an Associate with Trivers. He is experienced in historic renovation\, adaptive reuse\, and technical spaces. He has also served a key role on many impactful projects in the St. Louis area. He has contributed to a number of Trivers’ sustainable projects\, including the renovation of January Hall at Washington University\, which received LEED Gold certification. James serves on the Planning Group of the BuildingGreen Small Firm Sustainable Design Leaders Peer Network. He is a member of the American Institute of Architects and the Missouri Gateway Green Building Council\, where he served as 2024 Chair of the MGGBC board of directors and is currently on the Education Committee. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\nREGISTER NOW\n\n\n  \nIn 2024\, our Coffee Break Series transitioned to a slightly longer Green Building Break Series. While many builders\, owners\, facilities managers\, and their service providers invest significant resources to achieve safe\, satisfactory air quality in spaces where people work\, sleep\, learn\, and play\, others may not prioritize or understand measures to improve indoor air. This can lead to disparities in the quality of indoor air among different geographies and demographics. Moreover\, most buildings’ indoor air quality (IAQ) remains invisible until a problem or complaint prompts a reactive assessment. Join us to learn how USGBC is working with its research and policy partners and communities of practice to expand indoor air quality performance verification and proactive resilience planning in buildings\, expanding on our work to promote and scale foundational IAQ strategies. \nLive attendance at this session is eligible for 1 GBCI CE Hour – General. \nREGISTER FOR THE APRIL 3 WEBINAR \n2026 Schedule \n\nMarch 6 | Sustainable AI Practice in the Built Environment: Sufficient\, Efficient\, and Scalable Impact\nApril 3 | Elevating indoor air quality with research\, innovation\, and collective action\nMay 1 | State of Play: U.S. Existing Buildings Market\nJune 5 | Sustainable Finance in the Built Environment\nJuly 10 | Innovation Reimagined: The LEED v5 Project Priorities Category\nAugust 7 | Sustainable Cities: Strategies for advancing city-wide sustainability goals\nSeptember 11 | Advancing Circularity with TRUE\nOctober 2 | The Tripod: Three USGBC Tools to Facilitate Decarbonization\nNovember 6 | Regenerative\, Resilient and Equitable Solutions for Large-scale Developments (Communities)\nDecember 4 | High performing existing buildings with LEED O+M

SUMMARY:Green Ink: Writing Sustainability into Construction Specifications
DESCRIPTION:REGISTER NOW  \nThis program is presented in partnership with the Construction Specifications Institute (CSI) – Greater St. Louis Chapter! \nAs we all know\, sustainability for the built environment is more than just materials and administrative procedures. Sustainability involves the spatial design of a structure\, its location and orientation on a site\, and the owner’s operation of the building after occupation. However\, those characteristics are rarely conveyed from one party to another through detailed contract requirements. This is where specifications play a role in establishing the material and installation requirements\, as well as the administrative procedures to ensure those requirements are being met during construction. This session does not focus on specific sustainable requirements\, but how those requirements are commonly provided in the contract documents through the specifications. \nSpeaker\nRon Geren\, Principal/Owner at RLGA Technical Services\, LLC \nA panel discussion with local practitioners will follow Ron’s presentation – panelist details coming soon! \nWHERE: HOK\n701 Market St Suite 400 | St. Louis\, MO 63101 \nWHEN: Tuesday\, May 19 – 5:30 – 7:30 pm \nADMISSION\nFree \nQUESTIONS? \nContact Missouri Gateway Green Building Council staff at info@mogreenbuildings.org or 314-577-0854. \nREGISTER NOW  \n  \nTHANKS TO OUR PROGRAM SPONSOR!\n \n\n  \n  \n  \nCONTINUING EDUCATION\nThis program will be submitted for AIA CES. \nCode of Conduct\nMissouri Gateway Green Building Council (MGGBC) is committed to providing a safe\, productive\, inclusive\, and welcoming environment for all participants attending our events in person or virtually.
