SUMMARY:Green Ink: Writing Sustainability into Construction Specifications
DESCRIPTION:REGISTER NOW  \nThis program is presented in partnership with the Construction Specifications Institute (CSI) – Greater St. Louis Chapter! \nAs we all know\, sustainability for the built environment is more than just materials and administrative procedures. Sustainability involves the spatial design of a structure\, its location and orientation on a site\, and the owner’s operation of the building after occupation. However\, those characteristics are rarely conveyed from one party to another through detailed contract requirements. This is where specifications play a role in establishing the material and installation requirements\, as well as the administrative procedures to ensure those requirements are being met during construction. This session does not focus on specific sustainable requirements\, but how those requirements are commonly provided in the contract documents through the specifications. \nPresenterRon Geren\, Principal/Owner at RLGA Technical Services\, LLC \nFollowing the presentation\, Ron will be joined by Olivia Paxson of KPFF and Chris Wilson of Mackey Mitchell Architects for a panel discussion moderated by David Charles of Built Solutions. \nWHERE: HOK701 Market St Suite 400 | St. Louis\, MO 63101 \nWHEN: Tuesday\, May 19 – 5:30 – 7:30 pm \nADMISSIONFree \nQUESTIONS? Contact Missouri Gateway Green Building Council staff at info@mogreenbuildings.org or 314-577-0854. \nREGISTER NOW  \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Thanks to our Evening Program Sponsor!\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Speakers\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Ronald Geren\, Principal\, RLGA Technical Services\nRonald Geren is a nationally recognized thought leader in specifications\, building codes\, and professional practice\, with over 40 years of experience across the design and construction industry. SUMMARY:Communicating the Value of Green Building: How to Get Clients on Board
DESCRIPTION:REGISTER NOW \nThis program is presented in partnership with the Society of Marketing Professional Services – St. Louis! \nAs sustainability expectations continue to reshape the built environment\, design and construction professionals are increasingly being asked to do more than deliver high-performing projects—they must also communicate their value in ways that resonate with clients\, stakeholders\, and decision-makers. This program will explore how architects\, engineers\, contractors and marketing professionals effectively make the case for green building in real-world project conversations. \nHighlighting perspectives from across the building industry\, panelists will share how sustainability communication happens in practice: when key conversations occur\, how messaging adapts for different client and project types\, and which strategies help move conversations beyond “that sounds expensive” toward long-term value\, resilience\, health\, and performance. The discussion will also examine how firms position their sustainability expertise through branding\, storytelling\, project experience\, and organizational identity. Attendees will gain practical insights into what strategies communicate the business\, environmental\, and human benefits of green building more effectively\, and help to build client trust\, strengthen collaboration\, and advance more sustainable outcomes across the industry. \nModeratorNora Knox\, Co-Founder\, Bold Branch Collective \nPanelistsMatt Cale\, National Program Manager\, Farnsworth Group IncDrew Hustedde\, Senior Architect I & Sustainability Lead\, BSA LifeStructuresMary Peterein\, Preconstruction Director\, McCarthy Building CompaniesAbigail Sirevaag\, Vendor Program Manager\, Branch Real Estate\, Edward Jones \nWHEREMcCarthy Building Companies12851 Manchester Rd | St. Louis\, MO 63131 \nWHENTuesday\, June 9 – 5:30 – 7:30 pm \nADMISSIONFree – Members of Missouri Gateway Green Building Council and full time students.$25.00 – Non-MembersNot a member? SUMMARY:Summer Member Social & Community Workday
DESCRIPTION:REGISTER NOW \nFor this year’s Summer Member Social\, we are gathering as a community to help a local school community. Washington Montessori\, an SLPS school located in the Fountain Park neighborhood\, was in the direct path of the EF3 tornado that tore through St. Louis neighborhoods on May 16\, 2025. The 200+ students were incredibly lucky to make it through the tornado unharmed\, but the school itself was badly damaged. Students and staff were displaced and only recently returned to the building in January of this year. \nWhile the district was able to renovate the school itself\, the school’s beloved garden has not been repaired. This essential outdoor classroom was a beautiful space with over 20 raised beds that grew fresh produce for the cafeteria and for families to take home and cook with their children. It hosted a flower garden for the pollinators. It had a sensory garden designed for their 78 preschoolers and over 15% special education population. \nOur objectives include: \n\n(1) removing & repairing broken beds and nails to make the space safe for children(2) restoring the mulch and soil that was completely wiped out by the winds(3) jumpstarting the renovations so that the local partners in the area can get back to doing what they do best – supporting their local school \nWe hope you can join us to spruce up Washington Montessori’s garden. The workday will be followed by a happy hour at Built Solutions / DIRTT. \nIf you can help out with supply donations\, material donations\, a check\, or your time\, please reach out to us at info@mogreenbuildings.org \nWHEN12pm – 4pm – Community WorkdayCome for the whole time or for a couple of hours to help out – many hands make light work! 4:30 – 6:00 pm – Happy Hour at Built Interiors / DIRTT It’s okay to attend the happy hour if you can’t make the work day. \nWHEREWashington Montessori\, 1130 North Euclid\, St. Louis\, MO 63113Built Interiors / DIRTT\, 2818 Locust\, St. Louis\, MO 63103 \nREGISTER NOW \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\nCode of Conduct:Missouri Gateway Green Building Council (MGGBC) is committed to providing a safe\, productive\, inclusive\, and welcoming environment for all participants attending our events in person or virtually. SUMMARY:Green Building Tour - Jeffrey T. Fort Neuroscience Research Building
DESCRIPTION:REGISTER NOW!  \nJoin us for our annual green building tour – we look forward to visiting the Jeffrey T. Fort Neuroscience Research Building on the Washington University School of Medicine\, which earned LEED Gold certification. Opened in 2024\, the 11-story\, 609\,000-square-foot facility was designed as a central hub for neuroscience research and collaboration at Washington University School of Medicine. The building brings together more than 100 interdisciplinary research teams that were previously spread across multiple locations\, creating a shared environment for scientists studying disorders such as Alzheimer’s disease\, Parkinson’s disease\, ALS\, brain tumors\, psychiatric illnesses\, and other neurological conditions. Organizing researchers around scientific themes instead of academic departments\, the building encourages collaboration across specialties. \nThe tour will identify key sustainability strategies that helped the building earn LEED certification and that reflect Washington University’s broader commitment to sustainability\, operational efficiency\, and the long-term health of both the campus and the surrounding St. Louis community. Sustainability features include high-efficiency chillers and cooling towers\, heat- and energy-recovery technology\, LED lighting throughout the building\, and computer-controlled airflow systems that reduce energy consumption while maintaining safe laboratory conditions. The building also incorporates low-flow plumbing fixtures\, native landscaping\, and energy-efficient ultra-low temperature laboratory freezers that consume less electricity than conventional models. The Healthier Hospital Initiative\, a national effort that encourages the elimination of chemicals\, antimicrobials and flame retardants\, guided the selection of furniture and interior materials. The parking structure also achieved a Parksmart certification and includes 36 electric vehicle charging stations and 100 covered bicycle racks and a bicycle fix-it station. \nWHEN: July 14\, 2026\, 5:30 – 7:30 pm \nWHERE: Jeffrey T.
