This pragmatic discussion explores the near-term hurdles and the solutions coming to the market. The panelists discuss the ways in which LEED credits for LEED v4.1 BD+C and O+M support project electrification goals and how those goals support LEED certification. Real world projects\, practices\, research\, and resources guide this education session. \nREGISTER FOR THE DECEMBER WEBINAR \n\nFebruary: Overview of LEED v5: Taking action on climate\, quality of life\, and ecology\nMarch: LEED v5: Swift Climate Action\, Enriched Quality of Life\, and Advanced Land Use and Biodiversity\nApril: Navigating Smart Building Certifications for Sustainable Futures\nMay: LEED and Upfront Carbon Emissions: A Comprehensive Look at A1-A5 Embodied Carbon in Building Construction\nJune: LEED EBOM Plays Nice with WELL Health-Safety at the Children’s Museum of Cleveland\nJuly: Smart Building Charrette\, circa 2030: Realizing the Promise of High-Performance Green Buildings\nAugust: Exceeding ESG Commitments with LEED for Communities\nSeptember: Looking to the Future: Utilizing LEED as a Tool for Adaptive Reuse Projects\nOctober: LEED Zero Project Profiles\nNovember: Implementing the Future of LEED with LEED v5 Operations + Maintenance\nDecember: Beneficial Electrification in Northern Climates\nJanuary 2025: Inclusive Pathways to Health in LEED v5: Harnessing Biophilic and Universal Design

SUMMARY:First Friday Webinars - Inclusive Pathways to Health in LEED v5: Harnessing Biophilic and Universal Design
DESCRIPTION:USGBC will once again offer First Friday Webinars in 2024. These are previously recorded\, highly rated\, LEED specific education programs. Gather with peers and colleagues at noon Central Time on first Friday of each month to earn those CEs! \nThese courses are available for anyone to attend\, but are free to local or company USGBC members. Reach out to your MO Gateway Green Building Council staff at info@mogreenbuildings.org. \nREGISTER FOR THE JANUARY WEBINAR \nInclusive Pathways to Health in LEED v5: Harnessing Biophilic and Universal Design\nWhat is new in LEED v5? And how will this impact human health and wellbeing? It’s critical to note that LEED v5 recognizes that climate change will be the largest threat to human health. As such\, LEED v5\, particularly the indoor environmental quality category\, supports adaptation for current and future climate through the use of future weather files and the careful identification of vulnerable populations. LEED v5 prioritizes air quality transparency along with improved air quality monitoring strategies for both indoor and outdoor air. Once LEED projects consider and adapt to pressing physiological health threats\, they can also prioritize designing for mental health and wellness. By incorporating more universal and inclusive design principles\, LEED will empower projects to design for physically and mentally diverse populations. This not only means improving access to spaces and amenities throughout the building\, but also approaching existing strategies\, like acoustic design\, thermal comfort\, and lighting through a new lens. \nLEED v5 is deeply focused on identifying and alleviating the actual\, most critical threats to occupant physical health. That said\, the next version of LEED considers mental health and wellness more in-depth than ever before. Through new strategies\, like biophilic and universal design\, and improvements to existing strategies\, like daylight\, quality views and thermal comfort\, mental health and wellbeing will be at the forefront of LEED going forward and this session will demonstrate how. \nREGISTER FOR THE JANUARY WEBINAR \n\nFebruary: Overview of LEED v5: Taking action on climate\, quality of life\, and ecology\nMarch: LEED v5: Swift Climate Action\, Enriched Quality of Life\, and Advanced Land Use and Biodiversity\nApril: Navigating Smart Building Certifications for Sustainable Futures\nMay: LEED and Upfront Carbon Emissions: A Comprehensive Look at A1-A5 Embodied Carbon in Building Construction\nJune: LEED EBOM Plays Nice with WELL Health-Safety at the Children’s Museum of Cleveland\nJuly: Smart Building Charrette\, circa 2030: Realizing the Promise of High-Performance Green Buildings\nAugust: Exceeding ESG Commitments with LEED for Communities\nSeptember: Looking to the Future: Utilizing LEED as a Tool for Adaptive Reuse Projects\nOctober: LEED Zero Project Profiles\nNovember: Implementing the Future of LEED with LEED v5 Operations + Maintenance\nDecember: Beneficial Electrification in Northern Climates\nJanuary 2025: Inclusive Pathways to Health in LEED v5: Harnessing Biophilic and Universal Design

SUMMARY:Evening Program - Building Resilience: Collaborative Strategies for Flood Mitigation in Cahokia Heights & Brentwood
DESCRIPTION:REGISTER NOW \nWe are excited to partner with the National Society of Black Engineers – Gateway Chapter for a discussion on regional flooding challenges\, including stormwater and flash flooding\, exploring how municipalities\, communities\, engineers and designers are addressing and preparing for local environmental impacts from climate change. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Between polar vortex winter storms paralyzing midwestern cities to four raging wildfires in Los Angeles wiping out entire neighborhoods\, we are immersed in cataclysmic weather events that are more intense\, frequent and damaging due to climate change. Like all intensifying weather and natural disaster events across the globe\, the specific threats depend on location and context – and magnify the impact of existing risks in a particular place based on climate\, topography\, historic and current development trends\, and more. \nHere in the St. Louis metro region\, our location along the Mississippi River and at the confluence of several large rivers places us at particular risk to flooding. Climate change promises to take advantage of existing vulnerabilities in the system and exacerbate impacts to our cities\, communities\, livelihoods and homes. In an effort to strengthen local resilience against such risks\, regional entities and organizations are coming together with local municipalities and communities to develop strategies to mitigate damage and protect communities\, while improving the resilience of the region as a whole. \nJoin us for a timely discussion on regional flooding challenges – including stormwater and flash flooding – exploring how municipalities\, communities\, engineers and designers are addressing and preparing for local environmental impacts from climate change. We’ll hear about regional planning and mitigation efforts\, then learn about two local communities – Cahokia Heights (IL) and Brentwood (MO) – examining the history of flooding and community impact\, and the mitigation strategies being pursued and implemented. \nSpeakers \n\nMatt Jones\, Project Manager\, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers\nNicole Nelson\, Equity Legal Services & Ms. Yvette Lyles\, Cahokia Heights resident\nEric Gruenenfelder\, Director of Parks & Recreation\, City of Brentwood & Elise Ibendahl\, Global Principal\, Flood Modeling and Planning\, Jacobs – Brentwood Bound\n\n  \nADMISSIONThis event is free to attend\, but please register! \nREGISTER NOW \n  \n \n \n \n \n \n Speakers\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Matt Jones\, Project Manager\, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers – St. Louis District \nMatt Jones is a Project Manager with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers\, St. Louis District.
