They provide examples of successful ESG reporting and continuous improvements using LEED for Communities\, clearly demonstrating how to expand the benefits of using this tool by linking it to the performance of environmental and social aspects. \nThe LEED for Communities rating system offers a credible framework for corporations\, developers\, real estate companies and investors to navigate complexities of ESG issues\, make improvements\, and support decisions. The different terms and definitions can get confusing – and the actual impact of the strategies they describe can vary widely. So\, which is the right path to make sure our buildings are acting as climate solutions? Join us for our annual joint program with ASHRAE and I2SL to dive into the details with our guest speaker\, Josh Radoff. Last year\, Josh penned a five-part op-ed series for BuildingGreen\, starting with “Net Zero Has Failed. We need a Universal Carbon Standard.” We look forward to a lively presentation and discussion with Josh! \nSPEAKER: Josh Radoff is the Renewable and Sustainable Energy (RSE) Specialization lead within the Masters of the Environment (MENV) program at CU Boulder\, where he teaches classes on sustainability and decarbonization and serves on the campus sustainability executive committee. He also works with the NGO ICLEI as a Zero Carbon Cities advisor\, and as an independent consultant on various district scale sustainable development projects\, with a focus on climate action planning\, facility electrification\, distributed energy\, and grid interactivity. \nPreviously\, Josh was the head of WSP’s Built Ecology practice and worked on a range of horizontal and vertical sustainable buildings and infrastructure projects across the US and internationally\, pursuing sustainability goals such as Net Zero Energy and Carbon\, WELL\, and LEED. Josh was a co-founder of the sustainability group YR&G\, was a co-founder of the advocacy group GreenHomeNYC. He was co-chair of the ULI Colorado Healthy Places Committee and is a LEED Fellow. The committee then consults a matrix of leadership needs to determine a slate to present to the board for approval. The committee expects to present a slate to the board for discussion at the September 2024 board meeting.

SUMMARY:Green Building Break - Tour of St. Louis County Library Clark Family Branch
DESCRIPTION:REGISTER NOW \n\n\n  \n  \n  \n  \nJoin your Missouri Gateway Green Building Council for an in-person Green Building Break and an opportunity to tour and learn about the sustainability aspects of the new Clark Family Branch of the St. Louis County Library. \nDesigned by Lamar Johnson Collaborative\, the two-story\, 74\,000 square foot library was designed to respond to the evolving role of the library as a vibrant community and gathering space. This can be seen in a variety of new community and learning spaces\, including an event space with seating for up to 800\, a children’s space\, a history and genealogy center with a Memory Lab to record family histories\, a high-tech creative lab for teens\, and a small business center. \nIn addition to designing for flexibility so the building can respond to the evolving needs of patrons over time\, the library incorporates other green features that foster a healthier environment both inside and out. Outside\, native landscaping\, sustainable irrigation and storm water management\, walking and biking infrastructure and access to public transit promote biodiversity\, connection to nature\, physical activity and environmentally-friendly transit. Inside\, building orientation\, clerestory windows and floor openings allow natural light to penetrate the core of the building\, while recycled materials\, LED lighting\, high efficiency toilets\, and building automation help conserve water and energy and minimize the health and environmental impacts of the building. \nJoin us next Friday to learn more about the Library and experience it for yourself! DESCRIPTION:Become a Green Schools Mentor and Help a Local School Go Green! \nMissouri Gateway Green Building Council and Missouri Environmental Education Association are looking for passionate individuals to help schools improve their students’ health\, reduce their environmental impact\, and develop a culture of sustainability. Each school year\, PreK-12 schools across Missouri and Southern Illinois are challenged to implement student-driven\, no/low-cost sustainability projects at their schools with the help of Green Mentors through the Green Schools Quest. Green Mentors are a diverse group of community members and professionals who volunteer to assist schools with project ideas\, implementation\, and resources. Time commitment is approximately 2-5 hours per month between October and March. Mentor registration is due August 31.
