SUMMARY:Evening Program - Simplifying Net Zero & Maximizing Climate Impacts from Buildings
DESCRIPTION:REGISTER NOW! \nProgram Presented in partnership with: \n \nWe hear the terms Net Zero\, carbon neutral\, and decarbonization used a lot in the green building industry. The different terms and definitions can get confusing – and the actual impact of the strategies they describe can vary widely. So\, which is the right path to make sure our buildings are acting as climate solutions? Join us for our annual joint program with ASHRAE and I2SL to dive into the details with our guest speaker\, Josh Radoff. Last year\, Josh penned a five-part op-ed series for BuildingGreen\, starting with “Net Zero Has Failed. We need a Universal Carbon Standard.” We look forward to a lively presentation and discussion with Josh! \nSPEAKER: Josh Radoff is the Renewable and Sustainable Energy (RSE) Specialization lead within the Masters of the Environment (MENV) program at CU Boulder\, where he teaches classes on sustainability and decarbonization and serves on the campus sustainability executive committee. He also works with the NGO ICLEI as a Zero Carbon Cities advisor\, and as an independent consultant on various district scale sustainable development projects\, with a focus on climate action planning\, facility electrification\, distributed energy\, and grid interactivity. \nPreviously\, Josh was the head of WSP’s Built Ecology practice and worked on a range of horizontal and vertical sustainable buildings and infrastructure projects across the US and internationally\, pursuing sustainability goals such as Net Zero Energy and Carbon\, WELL\, and LEED. Josh was a co-founder of the sustainability group YR&G\, was a co-founder of the advocacy group GreenHomeNYC. He was co-chair of the ULI Colorado Healthy Places Committee and is a LEED Fellow. He holds Masters’ degrees in Mechanical and Electrical Engineering from the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm and Columbia University in New York.\n \nADMISSION\nFree – Members of Missouri Gateway Green Building Council\, ASHRAE – St. Louis\, I2SL-St. Louis Chapter and full-time students\n$25.00 – NON-Members\nASHRAE – St. Louis members can register with ASHRAE to receive member pricing. I2SL – St. Louis Chapter members should register for this event with I2SL to receive member pricing.  \nREGISTER NOW \nTHANKS TO OUR SPONSORS \n\n\n\n  \n  \n  \n  \nCONTINUING EDUCATION\nApproved for 1 AIA LU/HSW \nLearning Objectives:\n• Describe and compare the different definitions of Net Zero and their application for buildings\, including existing buildings and building portfolios.\n• Explain the various sources of Greenhouse Gas Emissions from the building sector (Scopes 1-3)\, as well as the role of buildings in supporting the evolving power grid.\n• Define the conflict between Net Zero and building density.\n• Develop an understanding of a path forward to maximize positive climate impacts from buildings. \nCONSENT TO USE OF PHOTOGRAPHIC IMAGES\nThis event will be recorded and shared on our website. Registration/attendance at\, or participation in Missouri Gateway Green Building Council programs and activities constitutes an agreement by the registrants to allow the organization to use and distribute (both now and in the future) the attendee’s image\, in photographs\, video\, and electronic reproductions of such events and activities. \nAIA CES PROVIDER STATEMENT\nMissouri Gateway Green Building Council is a registered provider of AIA-approved continuing education under Provider Number R341.
