SUMMARY:Monthly Program - LEED Tour of St. Louis Community College-Meramec
DESCRIPTION:REGISTER NOW \nJoin us for our annual green building tour! We will visit St. Louis Community College – Meramec\, which has two new buildings seeking LEED certification – the Financial Services Education Center (FSEC) and the Emerging Technology Center (ETC). Designed by Arcturis\, the two new buildings are part of St. Louis Community College’s STLCC Transformed\, a plan to modernize facilities and programming across its 6 regional St. Louis campuses. \nThe 70\,000 square foot FSEC serves as the new front door for the Meramec campus and provides a hub for financial programming\, with a focus on FinTech\, entrepreneurship\, and space accounting. The first floor will feature the Enrollment Center\, offering recruiting\, enrollment\, career development\, and financial aid services to students. The 80\,000 square foot ETC is home to new and reimagined programs with a focus on emerging and sustainable sciences\, engineering\, design and an expansion of the plant science and horticulture programs. It also accommodates the new campus library. \nThe tour of these buildings will explore how the project team integrated design and sustainability strategies to create beautiful\, healthy\, comfortable and flexible environment for end users. Highlights will include site sustainability strategies\, including landscape design to mitigate flooding\, human health and wellness features\, such as communicating stairs to promote activity and interaction\, access to natural light and quality views\, and a variety of spaces that are approachable to all\, healthy materials\, designing for efficiency\, and how building features like the green roof among others have been designed to integrate with educational programming and support hands-on learning opportunities. \nMembers of the project team from Arcturis\, Hellmuth + Bicknese\, Clayco\, Arbolope & S.M. Since joining Arcturis in 2005\, she has become a leader in sustainability at the firm. As an architect\, Chrissy listens to clients and guides her teams towards innovative solutions. Her devotion to sustainability pushes the firm towards making decisions that protect and improve the environment. She encourages the team to think outside the box in developing green solutions for common project issues. A passionate philanthropist\, Chrissy leads the firm’s community efforts\, ensuring their dedication to giving back is utilized effectively. As part of her local engagement\, she has held leadership positions with AIA Design Awards Planning Committee\, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Eastern Missouri\, Missouri Botanical Garden’s Young Friends Council and R&R Marketplace Advisory Board. \n			\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				Dr. Chavon Curry is the Interim Principal of Patrick Henry Downtown Academy. She was previously the assistant principal at Mason School of Academic and Cultural Literacy\, as well as Gateway Elementary in the St. Louis Public School District. An award-winning educator (St. Louis American NIE Golden Apple Award recipient and SLPS 2020 Elementary Reading Educator of the Year Award)\, she has impacted the lives of countless children. Dr. Curry’s current role illuminates her steadfast goal of ensuring everyone she crosses paths with realizes their potential. As Principal\, she cultivates a positive and engaging school culture and climate\, ensures that quality-learning experiences prompt academic achievement\, and enforces safety policies and procedures. Dr. Curry holds an Ed.D and an Ed.S. Degree in Educational Leadership from Webster University\, a M.Ed. in Elementary Education from University Missouri St. Louis\, and a B.S. in Broadcast Journalism from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. \n			\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				Jason Hainline first began working with Dake Wells Architecture in 2005 as a sustainability consultant. He formally joined the firm in 2012. An experienced and highly capable project manager and project architect\, Jason leads a wide variety of projects within the office and serves as the firm’s Sustainability Director. A hallmark of Jason’s work is an elegant marriage of sustainability and design excellence. Jason’s expansive knowledge and experience related to sustainable design elevates the performance of all projects within the firm. He brings more than 25 years of experience with a wide range of projects in the US\, Europe and Asia. Jason is a former member of the USGBC’s LEED Faculty\, and remains very active in promoting sustainable design and development through professional organizations locally and nationally. His passion and experience led to his elevation to LEED Fellow in 2013. \n			\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				Phil Valko works with faculty\, staff\, and students to advance operational sustainability for Washington University and to foster the next generation of sustainability/climate leaders. He also leads and participates in a number of national and regional partnerships to accelerate climate action and sustainable practice\, including serving as the program chair for the Midwest Climate Summit\, serving on the University Climate Change Coalition Steering Committee\, and co-chairing a St. Louis regional energy & emissions working group. In addition\, Phil teaches an interdisciplinary community-engaged course on renewable energy and de-carbonizing the electric grid and regularly guest lectures on a range of topics.
