Become a Green Schools Mentor and Help a Local School Go Green! Missouri Gateway Green Building Council and Missouri Environmental Education Association are looking for passionate individuals to help schools improve their students' health, reduce their environmental impact, and develop a culture of sustainability. Each school year, PreK-12 schools across Missouri and Southern Illinois are challenged to implement student-driven, no/low-cost sustainability projects at their schools with the help of Green Mentors through the Green Schools Quest. Green Mentors are a diverse group of community members and professionals who volunteer to assist schools with project ideas, implementation, and resources. Time commitment is approximately 2-5 hours per month between October and March. Mentor registration is due August 31. Registration is now open for the annual Green Schools Quest: A Project-Based Challenge! This program, which is a part of the Show-Me Green Schools suite, invites PreK-12 schools in Missouri and Southern Illinois to devise and implement creative, effective and no/low-cost sustainability practices at their school with the help of a Green Mentor. Each participating school forms a team of students (can be a club, class, grade level, or entire school) which is organized by one adult member of a school’s community (teacher, administrator, staff, or parent) who serves as their team’s facilitator. The school is then paired with a Green Mentor from the community who helps with project ideas and resources. Teams engage in their chosen sustainability project from October through March and submit their outcomes for a chance to win cash prizes. Registration deadline is September 15th for schools.
