    Connect on the Quest: Climate Action A monthly virtual speakers series sharing Green Schools Quest project stories and resources to support schools in their green schools endeavors. The February 15th Connect on the Quest will focus on Climate Action.  PRESENTERS: Dr. Leigh Anne Neal, Chief of Early Childhood Learning / Sustainability, Shawnee Mission School District (SMSD) & Joan Leavens, co-chair of Climate Action Plan for Climate Action KC and former Coordinator of Sustainability and Community Engagement, SMSD will discuss their experiences engaging SMSD with the Youth Summit for Climate Action Todd Clauer, Upper School Principal / College Guidance Director, Hyman Brand Hebrew Academy (HBHA) will share how HBHA has engaged students in policy advocacy.   Sami Aaron, Founder, The Resilient Activist will share resources available through The Resilient Activist whose mission is to build resilience, optimism, and hope in response to the impact of the climate crisis. They provide community-building programs that offer inspiration, self-care, and mental health support. Their programs are immersed in deep nature-connection and designed to nourish positive ecological change. Rebecca Weaver, Missouri Cities Program Manager, The Nature Conservancy will introduce the St. Louis EcoUrban Assessment Tool, an interactive tool visualizing environmental challenges and opportunities in the St. Louis region.   • 15th Annual Green Schools Event

    Join us at the 15th Annual Green Schools Event to celebrate student-driven sustainability projects in local schools! This free virtual event, which is open to the public, is the culmination of the 2021-22 Green Schools Quest – a project-based challenge to K-12 schools to implement a sustainability project over 6 months with the help of a Green Mentor. Winners will be announced at the event and attendees will have the opportunity to learn more about the wide range of this year's Green Schools Quest schools' projects and their impact by checking out this video! 

  • Connect on the Quest: Feeling Prepared and Empowered to Teach Climate Change!

    REGISTER NOW Attempting to teach about a subject that has become as politicized as climate change has and can be incredibly challenging, especially when you don’t feel like you have adequate answers or information for students. Join Climate Generation educator Seth Spencer as we dive into resources that Climate Generation offers for formal and nonformal K-12 educators and youth, including the Teach Climate Network which provides educators with access to resources, professional development, inspiration, and community networking to teach climate change in all disciplines, grade levels, and educational settings. This year’s Connect on the Quest series will focus on resources and education surrounding Climate Action. Connect on the Quest is a virtual gathering centered on providing Green Schools Quest participants with opportunities to connect with each other and learn together. REGISTER Those inheriting our planet’s environmental problems expect to encounter challenges, but they may not have the skills to grapple with the feelings of powerlessness and despair that may arise when they confront this seemingly intractable situation. Drawing on a decade of experience leading and teaching in college environmental studies programs, Sarah Jaquette Ray has created an “existential tool kit” for youth who are reenergizing global environmental activism – the “climate generation.” Combining insights from psychology, sociology, social movements, mindfulness, and the environmental humanities, Ray explains why and how we need to let go of eco-guilt, resist burnout, and cultivate resilience while advocating for climate justice.   • Connect on the Quest – Connecting GSQ to Missouri Green Schools

    Connect on the Quest: Connecting GSQ to Missouri Green Schools A monthly virtual speakers series sharing Green Schools Quest project stories and resources to support schools in their green schools endeavors. The March 31st Connect on the Quest will focus on Connecting Green Schools Quest to Missouri Green Schools.  Each year, students across the state implement no/low-cost sustainability projects at their schools with the help of their school sponsor and Green Mentor through the Green Schools Quest: A Project-Based Challenge. Over 200 schools have participated, many for multiple years, since the program launched in 2013. The impact of their projects is astonishing. Currently in pilot, Missouri Green Schools is a new statewide recognition program which supports schools in taking a systems-based approach to identify and advance green schools practices and which also serves as the conduit for the U.S. Department of Education’s Green Ribbon Schools award.  The Green Schools Quest and Missouri Green Schools go hand in hand - either can be an entry point to the other and schools can participate in both simultaneously.     16th Annual Green Schools Event to celebrate student-driven sustainability projects in local schools! Winners of the 2023-2024 Green Schools Quest will be announced at the event and participating schools will display posters detailing their projects. Several student participants will take the stage for Q&A at the Missouri History Museum in St. Louis. Wednesday, May 3, 2023 @ 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm.
