    Connect on the Quest: Connecting GSQ to Missouri Green Schools A monthly virtual speakers series sharing Green Schools Quest project stories and resources to support schools in their green schools endeavors. The March 31st Connect on the Quest will focus on Connecting Green Schools Quest to Missouri Green Schools.  Each year, students across the state implement no/low-cost sustainability projects at their schools with the help of their school sponsor and Green Mentor through the Green Schools Quest: A Project-Based Challenge. Over 200 schools have participated, many for multiple years, since the program launched in 2013. The impact of their projects is astonishing. Currently in pilot, Missouri Green Schools is a new statewide recognition program which supports schools in taking a systems-based approach to identify and advance green schools practices and which also serves as the conduit for the U.S. Department of Education’s Green Ribbon Schools award.  The Green Schools Quest and Missouri Green Schools go hand in hand - either can be an entry point to the other and schools can participate in both simultaneously.     Did you know Missouri is one of only seven states without statewide building codes? St. Louis County has uniquely fragmented building codes, as there are 88 municipalities, many of which do not have the capacity to keep their building codes current. The Safer + Simpler St. Louis County coalition was formed last year to find solutions to create more consistency in building codes and inspections and make it easier to do business in our region. If you’d like to hear more, do some cross-industry networking, and give your input, be sure to attend the Safer + Simpler Town Hall on Thursday, February 16. House Bill 580 prevents communities from adopting ordinances, resolutions, regulations, codes, or policies that: Prohibit or have the effect of prohibiting framed cavities in new dwellings from being used as ducts or plenums; or Require or have the effect of requiring: new dwellings to have a wood frame wall cavity insulation R-value greater than 13; to utilize exterior continuous insulation; to have a ceiling insulation R-value greater than 38, or to have a maximum air leakage rate less than five air changes per hour.
