As a result, the carbon benefits of reusing existing buildings are frequently overlooked in climate action strategies, carbon accounting, and design decision-making. This gap represents a major missed opportunity for professionals in preservation, planning, design, and policy to better measure their potential impact and advocate more effectively for building reuse. The CARE (Carbon Avoided Retrofit Estimator) Tool addresses this challenge by enabling decision-makers to quantify the carbon benefits of renovating and upgrading existing buildings versus demolishing and constructing new ones. Join us for an introduction to the CARE Tool with architect James Roseberry of Trivers and learn how CARE can be used to estimate the carbon impact of your projects and compare the impact of different design decisions.
